There is some bug when I try to run traceroute. I get file proxy.php for download with content:
…
{’loc’:’sg’,'hop’:'1 203.142.24.254 0.635 ms’}|{’loc’:’sg’,'hop’:'2 202.157.128.61 0.624 ms’}|{’loc’:'fl’,'hop’:'1 ve308.tpa.sagonet.net (66.118.187.1) 0.651 ms’}|{’loc’:’sg’,'hop’:'3 203.116.9.193 0.774 ms’}|
…
I use IE7
@Marko: Thnx. I will look into it immediately
Hiya - the captcha doesn’t work on OmniWeb 5.6 on Mac, just keeps coming back with “invalid captcha verification” even though I’m sure it’s right (4 chars!), and there are some intermittent layout problems with maximising windows on Safari 3.1.1. Captcha works fine on Safari though and the whole thing seems fine in Firefox.
Like it, useful tool!
Thanks
Igor
@Igor: Indeed OmniWeb is not supported. The current supported browsers are Firefox 2+, IE 6+ and Safari 3+.
I will look into the design issue in Safari. thnx!
I haven’t yet been able to perform a traceroute. In Safari 3.1.1 I keep getting the “Too many visitors doing traceroute. Please wait…” message.
@Jared: This error should only popup when there are a lot of people doing a traceroute and you are waiting in the queue. But I think this is not the point. I will look into this issue. Thnx!
@Igor: I tried 2 machines with Safari 3.1.1 but I see nothing strange when maximizing the window. Can you give me more details when you see this?
@Marko: I emailed you with some more questions. I hope you will reply.
Thanks Jared, you did point me to a bug in the queue logic. Fixed that and is good now.
Indeed, as others have reported, when I try to traceroute a location IE7 prompts me to download proxy.php.
Also, there’s loads of tabspace in the main comment box (the one I’m typing this text into) - at least two lines of it - is that intentional?
Firefox behaves as expected, so I’m surmising it’s a header issue?
Anyway, the interface looks simple but easy to understand (really like the realtime updating as the trace progresses) and as long as it scales well I look forward to using it regularly!
Everything seems to be working great, technically, but I’m not so keen on four different boxes in the picture frame layout.
For one thing, the line breaks created by making each of the four “console” boxes not fill the screen horizontally makes it hard to read.
Also, I was hoping for a bit more than a flashy design that presents four console boxes.
Just ping is nice because of the table it builds, allowing me to quickly gauge worldwide results. Imagine if Just Ping had a console box for every different city.
@Christopher: Of course it scales well!
I will look into that problem on IE7 again. Thnx!
@Martin: I know what you mean with Just-Ping but with ping you have only one line of results per city and with traceroute you can have 30 lines. We are thinking of a next version where you can drag&drop your terminals below each other so it will scale to your window with.
Initial - Looks & works great.
A couple of suggestions: It would be nice if each trace window showed its originating IP address. Great for confirming if the packets are blocked at the destination.
Also - a GREAT feature would be to pick multiple locations/carriers within a country. We’ve needed to determine why some people on certain carrier networks can’t communicate with us while everyone else can. This would be a great help in those situations.
But - I do LOVE it as it is… Thanks, Mikey
@Mike Dedmond: Thanks for the thumbs up and your suggestions. The choice of carriers/locations is in progress and wil be in version 2. Th other one is also a good one and I will look into that.
Thanks again!
I have same issue as Marko and others, I am prompted to either download or save a file named ‘proxy.php’ which contains similar content to that shown by Marko.
Using IE7
Hi Andy, I will look into it immediately. Can you (or someone) give me more details on what your security settings are in IE7 and if you use a proxy? (or email me at support [ad] just-traceroute [dot] com)
Fixed the bug in IE7 with the proxy getting download. Indeed was it a header issue. Thanks Christopher for pointing that out.
Overall its really nice but someway to easier compare the results would be nice. Maybe a link to a page that shows the results in a list and show the differences between them. Right now it kinda hard to compare when you need to scroll through the results.
Very nice job !
I agree with Jordan : the ability to scroll all 4 windows at the same time would be a nice addition.
Thanks a lot for this very useful tool !
Very nice service - already a fan. I’d recommend considering a “copy-to-clipboard” feature for a given location. Yes, you can email, but I’d like to be able to quickly copy/paste without requiring an email be sent. Not sure if this is an option in pure-javascript, but there is the capability to do this in Flash/Flex.
Just tried my first trace thru just-trace. Its quite nice. Keep it up.
Very nice idea, data results should be easier to scan
1) I would stack the result windows vertically or in tabs.
2) or Put the data into a graph, show table data details when clicked on it.
3) Perhaps running the traceroute for 10 times and show the RTT (round trip time) range for each Network device in a diagramme similar to the visual traceroute software.
4) You could colour values red that are 10+ % off to the average.
Thanks all for the requests and comments!
We are now creating a page for feature requests and I will list all your requests on this page. In that way we can update what we implement and what not and keep you posted.
Thanks again!
b.t.w. We had over 300 subscribers for the private beta! Nice!
If you have more requests please list them on the feature request page.
Thanks!
