Hi, We are very happy with all the comments from the private beta. There were also a lot of feature requests and we want to make sure we do not forget
This page is about you requests and our comments if and when we are gonna implement it (or not).
We would love to hear from you what new cool stuff you want in just-traceroute. Please leave a comment on this page.
The following requests have been made:
(Note: Listing those requests will not imply that we will actually implement them)
- Showing the traceroutes in a table instead with line breaks. (Martin)
- Not implement: Each trace window showing its originating IP address. (Mike Dedmond)
- Pick multiple locations/carriers within a country. (also Mike Dedmond)
- Someway to easier compare the results like link to a page that shows the plain results. (Jordan)
- The ability to scroll all 4 windows at the same time. (Marie)
- Implemented: “copy-to-clipboard” feature for a given location. (Michael)
- Stack the result windows vertically or in tabs. (Nils)
- Put the data into a graph, show table data details when clicked on it. (also Nils)
- Running the traceroute for 10 times and show the RTT (round trip time) range for each Network device in a diagram similar to the visual traceroute software. (Nils +)
- Color the values red that are > 10% off to the average. (Nils ++)
- Operator parameters implementation (like -l or –promo) (ZRED & Ricardo)

Thank you for this excellent service. Being able to pass the -I operator for systems filtering UDP traffic would be very useful.
Hi,
Maybe get a server with no connection to XO Communications? If you trace route my server, you will see all the connections go through XO. But my server also has connections to Global Crossing™ (http://www.gblx.com), Cogent™ Communications (http://www.cogentco.com), BTN™/PCCW™ (http://www.btnaccess.com), & XO™ Communications (http://www.xo.com).
Would be nice to exapand this as I am trying to track down a spammer.
Thank you for the great service. Very useful.
Im stupid. What does traceroute do actually?
Your web site’s service is very much appreciated. I think it would be very useful to have operator parameters implemented, specially the ability to send TCP SYN traceroutes.
@Amgad: Thanx!
@John: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traceroute
@Ricardo: We are discussing this in our team how we can implement operator parameters. I’ll have to get back on this one.
I have excecuted some tracert commands on Windows using 40 hops without reaching the host. When executing the same on just-traceroute.com the host is listed with the comment[open]. Does this mean that the final destination could not be reached? If yes, what does the listed delay mean?
If the destination is not reached you should list something like [unreachable] and not indicate a delay as that is very misleading. You should also state the number of hops being used.
Thanks.
The traceroute display will not carry the black background down when scrolling (IE6 and IE7). You have to highlight the text to see the end because it’s white on white.
Hi all,
@David: Thanks for pointing that out. I fixed that issue on IE.
@Carl F: Nice suggestions. We are taking that in consideration. Thnx!
@Ricardo: We are doing already an TCP SYN traceoute. We are now discussing if and how we should support operator parameters
Yes black bround is fixed .. now a suggestion for another tool. A DNS resolver that will ensure the correct IP is assoicated with a given domain from multiple locations around the world. (could probably add to the just ping too to ensure the IP is the same).
@David: Nice idea! We are gonna program the tool this weekend. Stay tuned for updates here.
Can you tell us what you think must be in the output? like: resolved IP address, resolve time, …
